Then, once again, the hunt for another young icon to become the next face of the league will begin. And it seems that the answer has already been found. French sensation Victor Wembanyama continues to make headlines and has become one of the hottest topics for fans. Many believe the 7’4″ giant will most likely be the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NBA draft.
A comment from LeBron James’ ex-teammate sparked debate on Twitter
NBA Central tweeted a statement from Richard Jefferson, a ESPN analyst and former basketball player who played alongside James with the Cavs. the tweet said, “Richard Jefferson says LeBron James would be No. 2 in a draft with Victor Wembanyama.”
Some NBA fans don’t seem to agree with the 2016 NBA champion’s statement and they later aired their views on social media.
Here are some of the reactions from NBA Twitter:
No question correct if we talk about them both as teenagers and not proclaim that VW will eclipse LBJ

I know we don’t compare a prospect to the second greatest player of all time

Nah he wild but Victor is a generational prospect
– Will be. ?? (@WiLLns23) October 7, 2022
RJ would not be drafted at this time
— ²³?????????????☄️?? (@BronGotGame) October 7, 2022
No, he wouldn’t. Bron is a 6’9 forward who plays all positions, his body was NBA ready, Victor’s isn’t. He doesn’t come into the league dominating like you think. It’s going to be great, but it’s not like Bron coming. Bron was great the first day. Calm down, don’t pressure the kid.

It’s too simplistic. Scouts examine important physical attributes. It is generally, but not limited to height. LeBron had a great body was 6’8 and otherworldly athletic. That, along with his NBA-ready skills, made him a top prospect.

He’s probably right. Look who was drafted before Jordan. The league has always been infatuated with height.

Victor Wembanyama’s size and commanding skills can arguably tip the outcome of a game in his side’s favor. Even the greats are talking about him, with LeBron James calling the 18-year-old an ‘alien’ after recently seeing him play. With his promising talent and recent performances, he is already compared to the greats even before making his NBA debut. Incidentally, a similar situation occurred when a kid from Akron, Ohio was recruited straight out of high school in 2003.
