Virtual reality capabilities have changed a lot over the years. Since VR headsets aren’t as expensive when they first launch, some models are actually affordable to the public. More people buying headsets means more games we can see coming out in the future.
When you think of VR games, the first thought that comes to mind is single player. While there are a plethora of single-player games, there are also a vast majority of multiplayer VR games. No idea where to look? No worries because this list will guide you through some of the best multiplayer games VR has to offer.
10/10 Star Trek: The Deck Crew
Star Trek: Bridge Crew is a one-of-a-kind experience as it lets you control a portion of Starfleet with other crew members online. The title is heavily based on teamwork and communication, so if you like to strategize and work well with others, this game is for you. Although it’s based on Star Trek, you don’t need any prior knowledge of the series to enjoy all it has to offer.
The game is cross-play with other Oculus, Steam and other headsets, so you don’t have to worry about being left out. Invite your friends over or make new ones as you enjoy this intergalactic experience.
9/10 Real VR Fishing
Real VR Fishing is exactly what the title says. You fish, but in VR. Whether you actually know how to fish or don’t have a clue, Real VR Fishing can be a calming experience. The game teaches you everything you need to know, and it’s pretty easy to learn. Once you have all the basics, all you have to do is enjoy the open water.
The calming atmosphere, the sounds of water and fishing with friends are relaxing. That same feeling you would have going fishing with a group in real life that you can have in your home.
8/10 beat the saber
Beat Saber is a perfect game for new VR users. Not only can it turn out to be one of the best rhythm games on VR, but it’s also known to be a good workout as well. With that in mind, who wouldn’t want to sweat it out with a friend?
Beat Saber multiplayer lets you compete against an online opponent as you both try to get the highest score in a song. You can host your own little virtual dance party. What’s even better about multiplayer is that it’s also possible to play mods online.
7/10 Zenith: the last city
Zenith: The Last City is what you would get if you were randomly teleported to a fantasy world. It’s an immersive experience that lets you battle various monsters, collect materials, and complete quests. The landscape is beautiful and full of colors and changes depending on the location. However, the multiplayer aspect is what makes the game wonderful.
There will never be a time when you will not meet another player. You can socialize with each other, complete quests together, or have pointless conversations during battles. It feels almost surreal and can make you forget you’re playing a game.
6/10 Payday 2
Payday 2 was already a hit title when it launched in 2013, but with its virtual reality capabilities, it unlocked a whole new experience for fans and new gamers alike. Robbing banks has never been so exciting as it creates an immersive experience around you and allows you to plan heists and stealthily complete your missions. Or you could go with blazing guns. That might work too.
If you own the base game, the VR DLC is free to download. If you have three friends with headsets, Payday 2 VR will be an exciting experience. Stealing from the rich and giving to the… well, you.
5/10 Check-in room
REC Room is a game about socializing with other people and making new friends. There’s plenty to do as the game has a bunch of community created worlds and games at your disposal. Not only that, but there are plenty of customization options that you can buy and earn to stand out from everyone else.
Inviting friends to play with you can allow you to open up and be more relaxed with people you don’t know. At the end of the day, they might even be added to your friend group if everything works out with them. Try it and see what happens.
4/10 Arizona Sun
Arizona Sunshine is one of the most immersive multiplayer zombie experiences VR has to offer. You and 3 other people can team up and take on massive waves of zombies and see how long you can stay alive. There are a variety of weapons in the game, so whatever you choose to punish the undead is up to you.
If you play with the right people, it will be adrenaline-filled fun, as some moments can go from 0 to 100 very quickly. You should give it a try if you like horror games and want an immersive experience.
3/10 Phasmophobia
Speaking of horror games, Phasmophobia is a VR game that shouldn’t be taken lightly. Not only do you play to survive, but you are also tasked with investigating different locations to understand the different paranormal activities that are taking place. It’s ghost hunting but in VR.
That being said, playing with a group is recommended as Phasmophobia is filled with loud sounds and funny moments filled with anxiety. While they may not be physical with you, having a friend or two in your party makes things a whole lot more fun. You can all experience being expert ghost hunters together, especially after Phasmophobia’s VR Overhaul update.
2/10 virtual reality chat
VR Chat is similar to REC Room as they are both social games where people can relax and unwind. However, VR Chat is more extensive and has better capabilities. In VR Chat, the worlds you can access are virtually endless, and some are more detailed than others. The number of avatars is also endless, as the community creates more daily, so there’s bound to be something to match your style.
Meeting people online can be nerve-wracking, but you don’t have to worry because the game has security settings that you can change freely. With friends, VR Chat is amazing and everyone should try it.
1/10 Pavlov RV
Pavlov VR is one of the best games to ever touch virtual reality. Looks like it’s based on Counter-Strike and Call of Duty at the same time. It’s an immersive FPS experience with a variety of game modes and maps to play on. There are a lot of guns in the game, and they all look real as the game has realistic gun handling aspects.
The modding community is also deep, so you’ll never be bored. Among friends, Pavlov VR is a competitive and enjoyable experience. It’s intense and exciting at the same time. If you haven’t already played it, you should do so as soon as possible.
