Over the past two years, video conferencing has shifted from being remote at all, under lockdown during the pandemic, to the current combination of remote attendees and conference room, as businesses have adapted to the new reality of practices. hybrid work.
This change highlighted the need for video conferencing options that better accommodate remote participants – making them feel more “present”, rather than semi-detached observers who occasionally interact with a group of people sitting around. a meeting room table.
Logitech’s efforts in this area have included the Logitech Scribe whiteboard camera and building more smarts into video bars such as Rally Bar and Rally Bar Mini. Specifically, RightSight 2’s Speaker View mode detects and highlights the active speaker while displaying a picture-in-picture of the meeting room. This will soon be joined by Grid View, which tracks all roundtable participants, whether they speak or not, and displays them in a grid. However, that’s not ideal when the conversation is between panelists, who naturally turn to face each other rather than looking towards a video bar under a large wall-mounted screen.

Logitech considered 360-degree cameras, like the Meeting Owl 3, but noted the opposite problem: When people around the table are talking to a remote participant on the big screen, a 360-degree camera shows people looking away.
Logitech’s answer is Logitech Sight, a smart tabletop camera that works in tandem with a video bar, addressing two key perspectives: the front of the room (Rally Bar/Rally Bar Mini) and the table in the room. meeting (Logitech Sight).

Logitech Sight’s dual-lens 4K camera has a 315-degree field of view — omitting the segment pointing to the video bar at the front of the room — and uses its intelligence to pick up and track speakers. Logitech plans to add Smart Switching to RightSight, to select the best view based on the audio source and the direction the panelists are facing. With seven beamforming microphones, an audio pickup range of 2.3 meters/7.5 feet, and daisy-chaining support, Logitech Sight expands the combined video bar/desktop camera solution to cover large meeting rooms.

“We are no longer all at home in equal-sized video boxes like we were during the height of the pandemic. The cylindrical Logitech Sight, standing 299 mm (11.77 inches) tall, can be placed on a table using a table or grommet stand, or attached to a tripod. It has three LED lights, mic mute controls, and a magnetic cover that slides to cover the camera lenses. Power and connectivity are via Ethernet (RJ-45 ports, Cat 6 cables) and IT management via Logitech’s Sync app.
Logitech Sight will cost $1,999 or €2,399 and will be available mid-2023. That may seem like a long way off, but Logitech told ZDNET that “our introduction of Sight allows enterprise/enterprise buyers to plan for these redesigns earlier (and better). Since their buying cycles can take months, we announced this product early enough for Sight to consider in its planning and purchasing decisions.”
