Meanwhile, in a Batcave somewhere near you…

Robin: Holy Android, Batman! What’s that new phone on your Bat-Belt?

Batman: Thanks for noticing, Robin, this is the new Doogee S89 Pro, and it matches my outfit perfectly.

Or maybe…

Bumblebee: Optimus Prime, you turned into something so small I can’t take you!

Optimus Prime: I’m a phone, Bumblebee! A phone!

Look at this phone. Look at the. If you don’t see Transformer or Batman’s new favorite accessory, you might need glasses. This phone is Doogee S89 Pro, and it’s a monster. It’s massive, heavy, and seriously fun.

It’s also not for everyone.

You must really like the idea of carrying a device that will test the strength of your belt or your suspenders (or both).

Before we continue, let’s talk about the specs and price of the S89 Pro.

Android 12

Mediatek MT6779 Helio P90 (12nm)

Octa-core (2×2.1GHz Cortex-A75 and 6×2.0GHz Cortex-A55)

PowerVR GM9446

Internal 256 GB

8 GB

Main camera

64 MP, f/1.8, (wide), PDAF 8 MP, f/2.2, 130˚, (ultrawide) 20 MP, f/1.8, (night vision), 4 infrared night vision lights

Self-illuminated camera

16 MP, f/2.0, (wide) 1080p video

6.3-inch, 97.4 cm2 IPS LCD (~65.9% screen-to-body ratio) 1080 x 2340 pixel resolution, 19.5:9 ratio (~409 ppi density) Corning Gorilla Glass

12,000 mAh Li-Po, non-removable, 65W fast charge

The first thing I will point out is the battery specification. You read that right, the S89 Pro comes with a 12,000mAh battery. I tested the battery life and was easily able to get an incredible three days of battery life from a single charge. It blows my Pixel 6 Pro (by a long shot). One thing to keep in mind, though, is that it wasn’t about three days of constant use. When you really push the phone to its limits, you can probably expect 16-20+ hours of battery life from the 12,000mAh battery. But as much to say that this battery is impressive.

Also: I made a huge mistake Apple Watch

Then you are probably curious about the processor and its performance. The phone costs $419.99 on Amazon and is currently on sale for $359.99 direct from Doogee. Honestly, the phone performed a bit better than I expected from a rugged phone in this price range, and the performance wasn’t so bad that the device would have turned me off. There’s lag in some animations, and if you really push the phone to its limits, you start to see the aging processor show its shortcomings. But for everyday use, this phone is quite adequate. Given the cost of the device, this should come as no surprise.

The fun factor

Using a built-in app called Light Effect, you can customize the lights on the back of the Doogee S89 Pro – the two lights that do a lot to give the phone some serious Batman and Transformer vibes. These lights can be configured to indicate incoming calls, notifications, screen off, charging, and media, or to be always on. You can also give the lights more entertaining settings, like breathe, left wink, right wink, wake up, alternate, shine, and rainbow.

And as I mentioned before… there’s the armored look of the phone. If you love action-packed superhero movies, this device will rock your world.

To add to that fun attitude, the S89 Pro’s main camera has a few tricks up its sleeves, such as Night Vision, Video, Picture, Beauty, Night, Pro, Portrait, Give, Panorama, Mono, and QR Code. And quite honestly, while the S89 Pro might not be able to keep up with the latest Pixel or iPhone cameras, it can take some pretty impressive photos. Even Portrait mode can produce impressive results. The only caveat to Portrait mode is that it’s very manual. After taking a Portrait mode photo, you need to manually adjust the blur and depth.

With a little quick adjustment, you can achieve an outstanding portrait effect.

One of my favorite modes in the camera is Mono, which takes really nice monochrome photos.

Yes, my keyboard needs dusting.

Who is the Doogee S89 Pro for?

Those who prefer flagship performance from their phones will want to steer clear of the Doogee S89 Pro. However, for anyone looking for a massive, water-resistant phone with an amazing battery, fun lights, and a Batman-approved design, this is the phone for you.

The Doogee S89 Pro is all about fun and having a device that will survive drops and spills, while looking rather menacing to the average user.
