Recognizing the importance of this data and the effect it can have on customer profitability, AkzoNobel decided to create the Paint Defect ID tool.
When designing this tool, AkzoNobel placed emphasis on a simple interface that could quickly provide information on how to correct the problem in question, while offering data on the possible root cause of the observed defect. Ultimately, this provides the opportunity to rectify the root cause of the problem, eliminating costly rework in the future.
Because AkzoNobel thought carefully about the best way to use the tool, they made the Paint Defect ID app free and easily accessible on smartphones. To launch the tool, simply click on www.paintdefectid.com, which takes you to the app’s home page. Using a smartphone, technicians can either take a picture of their paint defect for comparison; or, if they already know their paint defect, they can scroll through the full list and go straight to the information page. Once there, the technician can read simple descriptions on how to fix the problem and determine why the problem occurred, thus preventing the problem from reoccurring.
